When this item first arrived I put some batteries in it, switched it on and placed it in the sink. I ran water until it was completely submerged. The light stayed bright and didn't even flicker. So it really IS waterproof. But if you are looking for a floating light, look elsewhere. This would sink like a rock.The unit comes with a tiny hole drilled thru the case on the switch end, presumably for a wrist strap or lanyard which is NOT included. Also, batteries are NOT included. You need 3 AAA which fit in a "magazine". Just be sure to put them in correctly, they don't all go the same way.There is no "focusing" of the beam, so I suppose the only reason the lamp end opens is to change LEDs. The other end opens to change batteries but that can be done from either end, so I really can't figure out why it has two openings.
