We recommend spacing rings approximately every 4 inches. To determine the number of rings needed, divide the rod width (in inches) by 4, round up, and add 1 additional ring for each panels leading edge. I purchased these to replace curtain rings that had rusted (outdoor patio sun curtain). I liked that these are stainless so time will tell whether they hold up. The pincher springs have just enough tension to hold the material securely but not so tight that you break your fingers trying to squeeze them together. I was very pleased with the quality of these rings.
